What actually makes an investor write a check? Most founders think it's just a great idea. But after backing 30+ startups and executing 50+ proof-of-concepts, the filters go far deeper, into founder-market fit, execution velocity, and real validation, not just vision. The first one is tech maturity. Is the product ready for the real world, or is it still a science project? Then comes market sizing. TAM, SAM, SOM - not just as slides, but as a genuine understanding of what's reachable and what's realistic. The third filter is the one most founders underestimate: the founders themselves. Can this team build a product, hit PMF, and scale from 0 to 1 and then 1 to 10? That's where he looks most closely. There are more filters before a check is written.
